The Polar Box is an electrically heated enclosure designed to provide the float-free function of two Hammar H20 Hydrostatic Release Units (HRUs) in temperatures down to −50 °C, as required under the IMO Polar Code. The enclosure is approved for installation in EX-classified areas onboard vessels.
The first ERU releases the liferaft lashing, while the second ERU cuts the additional electrical cord for liferaft heating.
