The automatic activation of this inflation mechanism requires a combination of water and pressure. Full immersion of at least 10 cm below the water surface is required for complete activation.
When immersed, the hydrostatic valve opens, allowing water to come into contact with the water-sensitive element. This activates a stainless steel spring mechanism, which drives a knife into the gas cylinder to release the gas and inflate the lifejacket's air chamber.
As a backup, the automatic system is equipped with a manual activation mechanism. The wearer can manually activate the lifejacket by pulling the activation cord.
